Homemaker beaten to death inside home in Chandina
Unidentified miscreants broke into a house and beat a homemaker named Bina Rani Roy, 58, to death in Chandina, Cumilla. The incident occurred around 8:30pm at the Shil House in Barkait Dakshinpara under Barkait Union of the upazila on Monday . The deceased, Bina Rani Roy, was the wife of Dilip Kumar Roy, a resident of that village.
According to family and local sources, other members of the family work in different places, leaving only Bina Rani and her husband residing at the home. As on any other day, after completing her evening prayers on Monday, Bina Rani was watching television inside her house while her husband had gone out to a shop for tea. During this time, several miscreants entered the house and began striking her randomly on the head. Hearing her screams, a relative from a neighboring house rushed to the scene along with locals, but the attackers fled before they arrived. Locals rescued the severely injured Bina Rani and took her to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor declared her dead. Police reported finding injury marks on her forehead and head. Initially, police suspect she may have been struck with a hammer or had her head banged against a wall. The matter is currently under investigation.
The deceased's son, Tapas Roy, said, "Like every day, my mother was watching TV in the room after completing her evening prayers. At that time, miscreants entered the house and started beating her on the head. Before locals could arrive after hearing my mother's screams, they fled. Later, when mother was taken to the hospital, the doctor declared her dead." He could not provide any information regarding who committed the murder or why. Tapas added, "I do not know why my mother was killed like this. I demand that the killers be identified quickly and brought to justice."
Nure Alam, Chairman of Barkait Union Parishad, stated that based on local inquiries, he learned the deceased's family had a long-standing land dispute with some neighbors, and he suspects the incident might stem from prior enmity. However, he noted that the exact motive behind the murder remains unconfirmed and called for a swift investigation to apprehend those involved.
Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nuruzzaman said police recovered the body after receiving the information. The body was sent to the Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Tuesday. He mentioned that no case had been filed at the police station as of Tuesday afternoon, but preparations to file a case were underway. The cause and identity of those responsible have not yet been determined. He added that multiple police teams are actively working to uncover the motive behind the murder and identify those involved.
