Former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy was released from prison on bail on Wednesday night (June 3). She walked out of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail in Gazipur around 10:15pm.

Ivy arrived at her residence in the Deobhog area of Narayanganj city around 12:30am. Relatives, supporters and well-wishers had gathered outside her home since 11:00pm following news of her release, expressing relief at her return after a prolonged period in custody.

Speaking to journalists after reaching home, Ivy thanked the people of the country and expressed gratitude to the judiciary and the government.

“I am deeply grateful to the judiciary and would also like to thank the government. I hope a humane government inclusive of all will be established. There are many mothers in prison like me who are innocent. I hope the government will show compassion toward them as well,” she said.

Police arrested Ivy from her Narayanganj residence in the early hours of May 9, 2025. She was later shown arrested in 12 cases, including three murder cases and two attempted murder cases linked to the anti-discrimination student-led movement of 2024.

Although she secured bail in several cases, she was subsequently shown arrested in additional cases. Most recently, on April 30, the High Court granted her interim bail in two murder cases filed with Siddhirganj Police Station, paving the way for her release.
