Hospital ward boy arrested over alleged attempted rape of toddler in Demra
A ward boy at a private hospital in the capital’s Demra area has been arrested over allegations of attempting to rape a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, police said.
The incident reportedly took place at Shamsul Haque General Hospital in the Sarulia area of Demra on Friday (May 29). A case was filed later that night by the victim’s father.
According to police, the accused, Nur Nabi, 20, is a resident of Sinnirchar village in Mehendiganj upazila of Barishal district. He had been working as a ward boy at the hospital for a long time.
Police and local sources said a video related to the alleged incident circulated on social media, triggering outrage among local residents. Following the video's spread, locals detained the suspect and handed him over to law enforcement authorities.
Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taifur Rahman Mirza condemned the incident on Sunday (May 31).
“Such a severe moral collapse is unacceptable. A person accused of attempting to sexually assault a two-and-a-half-year-old child inside a hospital should not be given any leniency,” he said.
The OC added that Nur Nabi had been sent to court in connection with the case filed by the victim’s father and that the investigation is ongoing.
