Housewife allegedly gang-raped, chilli powder thrown on eyes in Manikganj

A housewife (23) has allegedly been gang-raped in Singair, Manikganj, after which dry chilli powder was thrown on her eyes, face and body. The incident took place in the Baldhara area of the upazila late on the night of Monday, September 21.

The victim housewife filed a case with the police station on Thursday, September 24, naming five unidentified people as accused.

According to the case complaint, around 2am on Monday, the victim housewife went outside from her bedroom at her home in a village of Baldhara union to answer the call of nature. After coming out of the bathroom, five masked youths who had been lying in wait grabbed her mouth and forcibly took her to agricultural land away from the house. They then gang-raped her at knifepoint.

After about an hour, they tied her hands and feet with cloth and her scarf, left her there and fled. While leaving, they threw dry chilli powder on her eyes, face and entire body.

Later, hearing the housewife's screams, relatives rescued her from the scene. After the rescue, she was given treatment at Singair Upazila Health Complex.

The victim said the accused are estimated to be between 20 and 25 years old. They were speaking in the local regional dialect at the time of the incident.

Singair Police Station OC Md Mazharul Islam said, "A case has been filed at the police station over the gang rape of the housewife. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the incident."
