Housewife foils rape attempt with blade in Munshiganj

A housewife in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj reportedly fought off an attempted sexual assault by injuring the suspect with a blade, police and local sources said.

The incident took place in the Tekpara Purba Para area of Bausia union on Saturday evening (March 31).

The accused, identified as Hatem Ali, general secretary of a local mosque committee, allegedly entered the victim’s home and attempted to assault her after developing contact with the family over a land dispute.

The victim said she used a blade in self-defense when the situation escalated, striking the suspect during a struggle, which forced him to flee.

Local sources said the injured suspect received primary treatment at a private hospital and is currently in hiding. The incident has triggered anger among residents, who demanded swift action against the accused.

Hasan Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gazaria Police Station, said, "An investigation is underway, adding that initial findings are being verified to confirm the allegation of attempted assault.
