Housewife stabbed to death by husband for drug money in Jashore
A housewife was stabbed to death by her husband after she allegedly refused to give him money for drugs in Jashore Sadar upazila.
The incident took place at approximately 6:00am in the Sheikhati Tamaltala area of the upazila on Monday (June 8).
The deceased, Samina Akter, 20, was a native of Taraf Nawapara village in Jashore Sadar upazila.
The accused, Sujon, 26 — son of Sirajul Islam of Gayhata (Shantinagar) village under Nagarpur thana in Tangail — turned the knife on himself immediately after the attack in an apparent suicide attempt and is now in critical condition.
The couple had been living for long in a rented house belonging to a man named Imraj in the Sheikhati Tamaltala locality.
According to family members and neighbours, an argument broke out between Sujon and his wife Samina Akter shortly after they woke up. The dispute escalated rapidly, and Sujon seized a sharp knife and attacked Samina repeatedly, inflicting multiple stab wounds across her body.
After she collapsed in a pool of blood, Sujon turned the blade on himself, stabbing his own body multiple times.
Neighbours, alerted by screams from inside the rented home, rushed to the scene and found both husband and wife critically wounded. They were rushed to Jashore General Hospital, where attending physicians declared Chhaminaa dead on arrival. Sujon, in critical condition, was given emergency treatment before being transferred to Dhaka for advanced care.
Masum Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that a police team visited both the scene and the hospital promptly after receiving the report. Samina's body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
"Legal proceedings, including the filing of a formal case, are under way," the OC said.
