Housewife's body recovered from locked room in Tejgaon

Police have recovered the body of Nishi Akter, 19, a housewife, from a locked room in the Roads and Highways staff quarters under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in the capital. The body was recovered wrapped in a blanket. Her husband Sagar has been absconding since the incident, police said.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Abdul Hamid of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station said that police went to the room in the Roads and Highways quarters after receiving information on 999. The room, locked from outside, was opened and Nishi’s body was found inside wrapped in a blanket.

Police said the body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy after completing legal formalities.

SI Abdul Hamid said, “There are marks of injury on different parts of the victim’s body. It is assumed that she was beaten and then strangled to death before the killer locked the room from outside and fled. Her husband Sagar has been absconding since the incident.”

The deceased Nishi Akter is the daughter of Md. Khokon of Matlab Uttar upazila in Chandpur. Police said, quoting family members, that she was married to Sagar about five to six years ago. They have a four-year-old child. The child stays with the grandparents in the neighbouring house.

Police are investigating why and for what reason Nishi was killed. Law enforcement agencies are primarily searching for her husband Sagar. Police further said that local information suggests Sagar was a drug addict. However, the reason for the murder and who are involved in the incident will not be confirmed until the investigation is completed.
