Housewife's hanging body recovered in Lalbagh

Police have recovered the hanging body of a housewife, identified as Touhida Hossain Tisha, from a house in Lalbagh in Old Dhaka of the capital. Her relatives have alleged that she was killed and her body was hung afterwards in an attempt to portray the incident as suicide.

Police recovered her body from a flat in a five-storey building adjacent to B.C. Das Street under Lalbagh police station around 2pm on Wednesday. Tisha was a resident of the Dholaikhal Jorpul area of the capital. Her father's name is Md Giasuddin.

Rajib, brother of the deceased, alleged that Tisha's mother-in-law called around 12:30pm, saying Tisha was seriously ill and asking them to come to the spot immediately. He said on receiving the news, they went there and found Tisha's lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan.

Rajib said there had been a dispute between Tisha and her mother-in-law over various family matters for quite some time, and there was also a heated argument between them this morning. He claimed Tisha was killed in a planned manner and later hung to make it look like suicide.

Immediately after the incident, a call was made to the national emergency service number 999, following which Lalbagh police station personnel reached the spot and prepared a preliminary inquest report. The body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy around 5:30pm.

Md Belayet Hossain, sub-inspector (SI) of Lalbagh police station, said police went to the spot and recovered the body immediately after receiving the news. He said various evidence has been collected from the spot and an inquest report has been prepared, adding that whether it was murder or suicide can be confirmed only after the final autopsy report is available.
