HRC Group Chairman Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury no more

Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of HRC Group, has passed away on Tuesday (July 15) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka, the capital city. The news was confirmed by his personal secretary, Md. Sohel.

Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury was the son of Hedayet Hossain Chowdhury, the founding chairman of Karnaphuli Group—a prominent education advocate, language movement veteran, and social worker. He was also the elder brother of Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director of Karnaphuli Group and Chairman of Desh TV.

A prominent industrialist, Chowdhury made significant contributions to the development of Bangladesh’s tea industry. Under his leadership, HRC Group emerged as one of the country’s leading tea exporters, representing Bangladesh in international markets.

Beyond tea, HRC Group has long been active in sectors such as tourism, shipbuilding, real estate, transportation, agriculture, and food processing. The organization has generated employment for thousands across the country.

Chowdhury also played an important role in representing Bangladesh abroad. He served as the Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Spain and was held in high regard within diplomatic circles.

Throughout his career, he was actively involved with various international organizations and forums, advocating for Bangladesh's potential in global trade and investment.

Despite his business success, Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury remained deeply committed to social causes. His contributions to education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation earned widespread recognition and respect.

As a business leader and philanthropist, he received numerous national and international awards. He is remembered by many for his lasting contributions to Bangladesh’s economic and social development.

Chowdhury is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, and countless admirers. His passing has left his family and well-wishers in deep mourning.
