Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is holding a national rally today (Saturday) at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital to press for their seven-point demand. Although the rally is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm, party leaders and activists began arriving at the venue from early morning.

Many Jamaat members from various parts of the country have already reached Dhaka and are making their way to the rally venue. Some arrived as early as Friday (18 July) and spent the night at the site. In the evening, several participants were seen offering Maghrib prayers at Suhrawardy Udyan.

The party has announced that there will be no designated “chief guest” at the event. While Jamaat is organizing the rally, they emphasize that it is open to people of all political ideologies, faiths, and backgrounds. Therefore, no individual guest will be featured on the stage.

Over 6,000 volunteers have been deployed to maintain order during the event. They are responsible for managing the venue, controlling entry points, providing emergency support, and assisting attendees. To ensure overall security, Jamaat has also held meetings with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and other law enforcement agencies.

The party’s seven-point demand includes: creating a level playing field for free, fair, neutral, and peaceful elections; ensuring justice for all mass killings; carrying out necessary structural reforms; implementing the “July Charter” and related declaration; rehabilitating the families of those killed or injured in the July uprising; introducing a proportional representation (PR) system in national elections; and securing voting rights for over one crore (10 million) expatriate voters.
