Human chain condemns principal's objectionable remarks on female student
Students and various organizations have formed a human chain against Principal Professor Shamsul Haque at Naogaon Government College, alleging irregularities, corruption, collecting extra fees from students, and having objectionable conversations with female students.
'July Joddha Sangsad, members of the injured and martyred families' and college students participated in the human chain on the college premises at 11:30am on Sunday.
The principal has been accused of sending objectionable messages to female students on Facebook Messenger and pressuring them to send pictures without scarves.
Recently, when screenshots of these conversations were circulated on social media, anger spread throughout the college.
The students in the human chain hung these screenshots at the college gate. They alleged that when they raised objections to these issues, students were subjected to intimidation and attacks by the college administration.
In addition, there were allegations of taking extra money from students in the name of admission and various sectors.
The speakers at the human chain included Mizanur Rahman, president of Naogaon District Socialist Student Front, Arman Hossain, representative of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, student Sadnan Shakib, Shaheed Fahmin's mother Kazi Lulun Makhmim (artist), college branch Chhatra Dal convener Junayed Hossain June, and student guardian Golam Rasul, among others.
The speakers said that Principal Shamsul Haque had behaved indecently with female students, pressured them to ask for pictures without a headscarf, and threatened them if they told anyone about this. They raised the question, 'How can students be safe with a person with such a mentality?'
Student representative Arman Hossain said, 'There is no residential hall or canteen for students in the college. Even if students do not come to classes regularly, the principal never gave importance. He has been busy embezzling money instead of creating an educational environment.'
District Socialist Student Front President Mizanur Rahman alleged, 'In the name of college development, additional fees are being forcibly collected from students. But there is no visible development. The principal has kept the Mastan army, who often attack the students.'
The speakers in the human chain demanded that disciplinary action be taken against the principal, subject to a speedy investigation, and that a proper educational environment be restored in the college.
Although attempts were made to contact the principal, Professor Shamsul Haque, he did not answer the phone.
