Human chain demands removal of RMU VC

A human chain was held in Rajshahi demanding the removal of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Jawadul Haque. Allegations of irregularities and corruption in various projects were raised against him, with demands for swift investigation and removal.

The programme was organised by the Ataur Rahman Memorial Council and conscious citizens of Rajshahi around 11:30 am on Wednesday, March 4, at Saheb Bazar Zero Point in the city.

Speakers at the human chain alleged irregularities in various development projects and administrative activities of the university. Particular allegations were raised regarding financial irregularities in the university campus construction project at Silinda area in Rajshahi city, costing approximately Tk 4,500 crore. They also alleged that 9 per cent commission was demanded from contractors.

Speakers further claimed financial irregularities occurred in multiple areas, from the land acquisition process to the appointment of directors and accountants. They demanded a proper investigation into these allegations, swift removal of the VC, and exemplary punishment.

Present at the human chain were Rajshahi Press Club President Saidur Rahman, General Secretary Golam Mostafa Mamun, Rajshahi District President of the Committee to Eradicate Killers and Collaborators Bir Muktijoddha Shahjahan Ali Barjahan, Member of the Workers Party of Bangladesh Rajshahi Metropolitan Committee Bir Muktijoddha Abul Kalam Azad, Ataur Rahman Memorial Council Vice-President Salauddin Mintu, former General Secretary of Rajshahi Press Club Aslam ud Daula, and National Journalist Association Rajshahi Divisional President and Joint Editor of Daily Upachar Nure Islam Milon, among others.

Attempts were made to seek comment from the university authorities, but no immediate response was available.
