Relatives and locals have formed a human chain carrying the body of Jubo Dal leader Touhidul Islam in Cumilla, demanding justice for his 'murder'.

They formed the human chain in front of the Cumilla Press Club on Saturday (February 1) afternoon.

Earlier in the morning, they staged demonstrations at Italla, the deceased's home village, in Sadar Upazila.

They demanded that those involved in the killing be brought to justice quickly. Otherwise, they warned, a tough movement will be created.

The human chain was addressed, among others, by the deceased's wife Yasmin Nahar, brothers Abul Kalam Azad Tipu and Sadequr Rahman, uncle Abul Bashar, teachers of Dighirpar Alexan Memorial School and College Md Shahjahan, Md Monir Hossain, and Lutfur Rahman Lutu.

Touhidul Islam's wife Yasmin Nahar said, "There is no case against my husband. There is no complaint anywhere. Why was my innocent husband killed? If this is 'new independence', then where is the safety of the people?"

He said, "I want justice. I demand immediate arrest of the culprits who killed my husband.”

The body of local Jubo Dal leader Touhidul Islam was found by his family at a Cumilla hospital on Friday (January 31) after the joint forces picked him up from home.

The family members have accused that he was tortured and killed.

His elder brother Abul Kalam Azad said his brother was taken away from his house in Cumilla Sadar upazila around 2:30 pm on Friday by four men who identified themselves as members of the joint forces.

The investigation report of the Cumilla Kotwali Police Station said that Touhidul (42) had injury marks on his body. There were dark and swollen marks on his stomach, lower abdomen, back of his thighs, both hands and the toe of his left foot.
