Human rights expert Faruq Faisel passes away
Former executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), human rights expert and development activist Faruq Faisel has passed away.
His daughter confirmed the news in a Facebook post on Friday morning. She wrote: "My father Faruq Faisel breathed his last this morning. His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at a mosque in Dhanmondi after Jumma prayers."
Family sources said that Faruq Faisel had been suffering from cancer for a long time.
He served as the South Asia Regional Director of Article 19, an international organization on the right to information and expression. He has worked for more than two decades in international development and human rights programs in various countries in Asia, North America, Central America and Europe. He also worked on the fields of journalism, media development, freedom of expression and development communication.
He studied at Dhaka University, the University of Oslo in Norway, and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. He is the son of martyred intellectual Dewan Mohsin Ali.
