Husband carries wife's body to hospital after killing her by stabbing in Ukhiya
A domestic dispute in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya ended in tragedy on Thursday morning (June 4) as a woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, who later carried her lifeless body on his shoulder to a local hospital in a shocking aftermath of the incident.
The victim, Parveen Akter, 28, was a resident of Paglir Bill area under Ward No. 2 of Haldiapalong Union. She was married to local mason Abdul Alam, and the couple had three children.
According to police and local sources, an argument broke out between the husband and wife over a family matter at their home around 8:00am. The altercation escalated, and Abdul Alam allegedly stabbed Parveen, leaving her critically injured.
Quoting the victim’s younger sister, Yasmin Akter, family members said the dispute began during breakfast shortly after the couple woke up in the morning.
Witnesses said that after the stabbing, Abdul Alam lifted his bloodied wife onto his shoulder and rushed her to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex. However, Parveen had succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital.
Local residents later detained the suspect and handed him over to police.
Ward member Borhan Uddin said preliminary information suggests the killing stemmed from a domestic dispute between the couple.
Confirming the incident, Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman said the body had been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“We have taken the suspect into custody and are questioning those involved. Necessary legal proceedings are underway,” the OC said.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident as preparations are being made to file a formal case.
