Husband kills wife, child before taking his own life in Naogaon

A man fatally stabbed his wife and young daughter before attempting suicide at their home on in Atrai of Naogaon.

The incident took place around 12:30am at their residence in Balramchak Chowdhuripara village in the upazila on Thursday (March 5), police confirmed, staing that all three later died.

The victims have been identified as Joy Sarkar, 27, his wife Brishti Sarkar, 22, and their 27-month-old daughter, Jini Sarkar.

According to locals, Joy Sarkar was reportedly struggling with drug addiction and often exhibited erratic behavior. His wife had previously left the home several times due to domestic disputes but returned. On Thursday night, after the family went to bed following dinner, Joy allegedly attacked his wife and daughter with a knife before inflicting wounds on himself.

Brishti Sarkar died at the scene. Joy and Jini were taken to Atrai Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to the severity of their injuries, where they both died in the early hours of Friday.

Abdul Karim, officer-in-charge (OC) of Atrai Police Station, said, "Following the alert, Brishti Sarkar’s body was recovered from the site that night. Preliminary investigations indicate the killings were linked to domestic conflict and drug abuse."

"A formal investigation has been launched, and a case is being filed," he added.
