Husband murdered for protesting evil proposal to wife in Gazipur: Police

Three days after the murder of auto-rickshaw driver Suman in Kaliakair, Gazipur, police have claimed to have unraveled the mystery behind the incident. Police stated that Suman was murdered for protesting when the perpetrators made inappropriate proposals to his wife.

Two individuals, including the main mastermind of the murder, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrested individuals are Imrul Hasan Mamun, 44, from Boroitoli village in Kaliakair and Zahidul Islam, 30, from Lokerpar area of Bhuapur upazila in Tangail. They were sent to jail through the court on Tuesday (August 11).

Police stated that around 8:30pm on August 5, several youths boarded Suman's auto-rickshaw disguised as passengers in the Chandra-Kalampur road area. While heading towards Kalampur, they indiscriminately stabbed Suman. When locals rushed forward upon hearing his screams, the attackers fled. Suman was subsequently rescued and taken to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared him dead.

According to police accounts, Suman, Mamun, and Zahidul used to regularly consume drugs together. A few months ago, Mamun had covered the medical expenses of Suman, who was injured in a road accident. After recovering, Mamun demanded the repayment of the medical costs. When Suman delayed the payment, Mamun repeatedly made inappropriate proposals to Suman's wife, Shahnaz Begum.

When Shahnaz informed her husband Suman about this, it led to an argument between Suman and Mamun. Police stated that Suman was murdered as a consequence of this dispute.

The day after the murder, Shahnaz Begum filed a case at Kaliakair Police Station as the plaintiff. Investigating the case, police arrested Mamun and Zahidul on Sunday night (August 9).

Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said that two people have been arrested and sent to jail through the court over the murder of auto-rickshaw driver Suman. Operations are underway to arrest the other accused in the case.
