Man sentenced to death for killing wife in Sirajganj
A court in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj has sentenced to death a man for strangling his wife to death. He has also been fined one lakh taka.
Judge Begum Salma Khatun of Sirajganj Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-2 passed the verdict on Wednesday afternoon (July 29).
Accused Matiur Rahman is a resident of Viat village in Tarash upazila.
According to the case information, Matiur often beat his wife Sabina Khatun for dowry. At one stage, he strangled his wife.
Abdur Razzak, the brother of the deceased, filed a case with Tarash police station in this incident.
Although the case was filed in 2011, the judicial proceedings began in 2022 after the current judge joined the tribunal.
The court also gave a verdict in another case on the same day. A man named Ahmed Ullah from Salangar, Sirajganj, has been sentenced to five years in prison on charges of attempted child rape.
