Husband surrenders to police after killing wife in Patuakhali
A female teacher was brutally murdered by throat-slitting in Nurainpur, Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali. Following the incident, her husband, Sarwar Hossain (40), fled the scene but later surrendered to the police.
Around 1:30 AM on Thursday (July 31), he arrived at Bauphal Police Station with his four-year-old child and confessed to the murder.
The victim, Salma Akter (32), was the daughter of the late Rustam Ali from Dhawa village in Bhandaria Upazila, Pirojpur. She was a lecturer in the Bengali department at Nurainpur Nesharia Degree Madrasa and lived in a rented house near her workplace in Chandrapara, Madanpura Union.
According to locals and police sources, the couple had long-standing marital disputes, particularly over suspicions of Salma’s extramarital affair. On the night of July 30, Sarwar allegedly killed Salma by slitting her throat and fled with their daughter to his family home in Pirojpur.
Officer-in-Charge Akhtaruzzaman Sarkar stated that Sarwar confessed to the murder upon arriving at the station. Police immediately detained him and dispatched a team to the crime scene, where Salma’s body was recovered from the bed.
