Huzayfa remains on life support, bullet could not be removed after surgery
Huzayfa Afnan, 9, a child seriously injured by gunfire from Myanmar, remains on life support.
Even after a complex surgery, the bullet could not be removed from his head. Doctors say his condition is still critical.
Professor Dr Harun Or Rashid, head of the ICU at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said the bullet could not be removed even after hours of surgery. As the bullet is in a dangerous part of the brain, removing it could risk the child’s life. “We are doing everything to make him recover,” he said.
Brigadier General Md Taslim Uddin, director of CMCH, said the child’s overall condition is critical, and doctors from multiple departments are trying their best.
The child’s uncle, Md Ershad, said tearfully, “My nephew has committed no crime. So why has he suffered such a tragic outcome?”
The incident occurred at 9am on Sunday in Technafs’ Hoikyang Union, Teccheb Bridge area, when Huzayfa was seriously injured by gunfire from Rakhine State in Myanmar.
In the afternoon, he was admitted in critical condition to the ICU at CMCH. As his condition worsened, he was placed on life support.
