I could not give any press release: President

President Md. Shahabuddin said that he could not give any press release. Even when the cricket team won, he could not congratulate them.

The President said this in a long interview given to the national media Kaler Kantho at Bangabhaban last Friday night.

He said, after the news of the courtesy meeting with the newly elected committee of Dhaka Reporters Unity was published, the press wing of Bangabhaban was withdrawn. The press secretary, deputy press secretary and assistant press secretary were removed.

Raising allegations against Dr. Yunus, he further said, the chief adviser of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus did not coordinate normally with me. Although there is a provision according to the constitution to inform the President after a foreign tour, he did not comply with it. He has been on foreign tours 14-15 times, he did not brief me even once.

He also said that he was not aware of the agreement made with the United States before the elections.

The President claimed that despite receiving invitations to Kosovo and Qatar, he was not allowed to go. Regarding the invitation from the Emir of Qatar, he said that a draft letter was sent to him from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which stated that the visit was canceled on the pretext of busy schedule.

He said, "I send the letter back with a question mark and condemn this behavior."
