I have done things that unprecedented in Bangladesh history: Asif Nazrul
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul said that ongoing reforms could ensure fair justice for ordinary Bangladeshis if continued by the next government, adding that the results of recent initiatives will become evident over time.
He made the remarks at the inauguration of a pilot project on legal aid in Sylhet on Wednesday (September 17).
“People often ask, ‘What have you done?’ I am not a footballer or stage actor whose work can be seen immediately. But my work will be understood through its impact. I have done things that have never been done before in Bangladesh,” he said.
Asif Nazrul highlighted that the new system allows many disputes to be resolved quickly and at lower costs through pre-litigation mandatory mediation, with the option of litigation if needed.
According to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Legal Aid (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 has been issued to expand and strengthen legal aid. It covers family disputes, parental maintenance, house rent, advance purchases, inheritance, dowry, and related matters, bringing them under pre-litigation mediation.
The mandatory provision will be implemented in 12 districts from September 18, with the pilot project inaugurated at the Grand Sylhet Hotel in Sylhet.
