I was granted bail in exchange for my wife, child’s bodies: Saddam
Banned Chhatra League leader Jewel Hasan Saddam returned home in Bagerhat on Wednesday night, five days after the deaths of his wife and child, following his release from jail.
Upon arrival, he visited their graves and offered prayers, breaking down in grief.
Saddam described himself as a “helpless husband and father” and urged a proper, evidence-based investigation, claiming the deaths were “planned.”
“I applied for bail several times but was denied. In the end, I was granted bail in exchange for my wife and child’s bodies,” he said, calling the situation deeply painful.
Meanwhile, the Jashore prison authorities maintained silence over his release, declining to provide details to the media.
Saddam’s brother, Shahidul Islam, said officials had instructed them not to speak to journalists. He added that Saddam went straight to the graves upon reaching home and remained there for a long time, overwhelmed with grief.
