I won't take less than Tk 2cr: PDB engineer’s video circulates online

A video purportedly showing Lakshmipur Power Development Board (PDB) Executive Engineer Nurul Amin discussing a Tk 2 crore payment has circulated on social media, prompting questions over alleged irregularities in project materials, contractor bills and financial transactions.

The video began circulating locally on Sunday night (September 27).

In it, a man identified as Nurul Amin is heard allegedly discussing a payment of Tk 2 crore in connection with a bill and saying he would not accept less than the amount.

The conversation also appears to refer to payments being kept or returned, the release of contractor bills, project materials and the supply of “cross arms” used in power-line work.

At one point, the speaker is heard discussing whether to keep or return money and referring to a PDB sub-engineer named Sabuj Mia in connection with line-related work.

The recording also contains claims about withholding contractors’ bills and discussions over material accounts and the release of payments, including references to large amounts of money.

However, the authenticity and context of the recording could not be independently verified. It is unclear when or where the video was recorded, who made the recording or who else participated in the conversation. It could also not be established whether the footage was edited or whether the amounts mentioned correspond to any actual financial transactions.

Several local journalists in Lakshmipur attempted to contact Nurul Amin and PDB Sub-Engineer Sabuj Mia for comment, but neither answered their phone calls.
