Idol vandalised at Kali Temple in Nilphamari; suspect arrested

A man has been arrested in connection with the vandalism of four idols at a Kali temple in Nilphamari on Thursday evening (September 25).

The incident took place in the Subornokhuli village of Songolshi Union under Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.

The suspect, Erfan Ali, 18, a resident of the Porarhat Housing area in Saidpur, was caught red-handed by locals after being spotted smashing the idols. He was later handed over to the police.

Temple committee president Pankaj Kumar said that local women had entered the temple for evening prayers when they saw the suspect damaging the idols. Their screams alerted nearby residents, who detained the individual on the spot.

A case has been filed by temple secretary Bijoy Chandra Roy.

Investigating officer SI Ahsan Habib confirmed the arrest and said that legal proceedings are underway, with the investigation still in progress.
