Idols must be immersed forming a single line: Home Adviser
Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, has said that during Durga Puja in Dhaka, idols must be immersed forming a single line. He made the remarks on Monday (September 8) after a preparatory meeting ahead of the Sharadiya Durga Puja.
He said, “In Dhaka, idols must be immersed in a single line. There must be a clear sequence showing who will immerse after whom, as there are nearly 33,000 Puja mandaps across the country.”
Jahangir Alam also stated that this year, border-area Puja mandaps will be monitored by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), while Ansar personnel will be deployed nationwide.
He added, “Puja mandaps will be under 24-hour surveillance. Adequate Ansar personnel will be deployed from our side. During Puja, fairs are usually held nearby, where alcohol and drugs are often present. This year, such fairs will not be allowed, and consumption of alcohol or drugs will be strictly prohibited.”
The adviser noted that the Puja organising committees have expressed no concerns this year. Last year, Durga Puja was celebrated peacefully, and this year it is expected to be even more orderly and calm.
