If necessary, I will provide detectives: Jamaat candidate tells OC
A video circulating on social media about Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate for Chattogram-1 (Mirsarai) constituency and Deputy Attorney General Saifur Rahman has sparked widespread discussion.
In the video, he was heard offering to provide everything from 'logistical support' to 'intelligence teams' for the police station.
In the video, Saifur Rahman was seen telling Mirsarai police station OC: "If logistical support is needed, if you need more than a hundred people, I will provide people from Shibir-Jamaat. If a union-based intelligence team is needed, I will also supply that."
The viral video was recorded during a meeting on combating robbery at Mirsarai police station on November 20. The Jamaat leader made such offer while discussing the increasing incidents of robbery in the area. After the video went viral, criticism began.
After the video went viral, Saifur Rahman said: "My statement was distorted and spread by a vested interest group."
He alleged that those who are distorting the video are helping the robbers. He also said that a case will be filed against these Facebook IDs.
In the video, OC Atiqur Rahman was heard saying: "We need your cooperation at this moment. If we form teams in the neighborhoods and create a WhatsApp group, we will be able to work in coordination on the ground. The police will also provide them security."
Although attempts were made to contact the OC regarding this, his response was not officially known.
In this regard, Chattogram District Police Superintendent Saiful Islam said that the matter is being verified. He said: "No one can behave or speak like this with the police."
