Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqul Rahman has pledged to restart all closed and dormant factories, including the once-major Keru & Co. sugar mill, if the party comes to power.

Speaking at an election rally at Meherpur Government High School field on Monday (January 26), he said corruption, theft, and misuse of state resources would be completely halted, allowing industries to regain productivity.

“Reviving factories will create jobs, boost domestic production, and strengthen the economy,” he added.

Dr. Rahman also addressed extortion, promising employment opportunities for those engaged in such activities to prevent them from returning to crime.

He emphasised that despite Meherpur being a small district, extortionists have dominated local areas, which will change under Jamaat’s rule.

On the upcoming national referendum, he urged voters to support “Yes,” stating it represents freedom, while “No” would mean subjugation.
