BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that ignoring the BNP will not lead to good outcomes. He said that a referendum must be held on the day of the national election.

He urged the government to announce the election schedule without delay, saying, “Stop procrastinating and announce the election schedule. Hold the election. Otherwise, you will be identified as a failed government and must answer to the people.”

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a memorial meeting for former minister and BNP Standing Committee member Tariqul Islam, marking his seventh death anniversary, held at Jessore Town Hall Ground on Tuesday, November 6.

He said, “A few political parties are conspiring to derail the election. Through blockade programmes, they are plotting to destabilise the country again and hand it over to fascism. The people of this country will never accept that.”

Referring to past struggles, the BNP leader said, “Fascism was overthrown at the cost of blood from children and ordinary citizens. Those conspiring to bring it back should remember that the BNP is not a party that emerged overnight. It has reached this stage through attacks, lawsuits, imprisonment, and sacrifices. BNP belongs to the people. Do not create unrest or chaos. If BNP takes to the streets, the situation will change completely.”

Criticising the Reform Commission, he said, “The commission has spent Tk 83 crore holding meetings with political parties. We presented our opinions at every meeting. On October 17, the reform proposal was approved with signatures from all parties at the National Parliament Plaza. After the advisory council meeting, Asif Nazrul said the political parties were given seven more days to settle unresolved issues. It seems the political parties are being treated like puppets.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Matters that were agreed upon have been signed. The remaining issues will be resolved in parliament. Therefore, the election should be held without delay.”

He added, “Tomorrow marks the historic March 7. On this day, there was a conspiracy to destroy the nation. But patriotic armed forces and people saved the country by handing over power to martyred President Ziaur Rahman. Those who are still conspiring to destroy the nation must be resisted through unity.”

The BNP Secretary General further said, “After the fall of fascism, the opportunity for democratic advancement has emerged. To establish it truly, we must take an oath not to hand the country back to any form of dominance, not to surrender democracy again, and not to allow fallen fascists to return.”

The memorial meeting, chaired by Jessore District BNP President Advocate Syed Sabirul Haque Sabu, turned into a massive rally.

Speakers included BNP Central Assistant Religious Affairs Secretary Amlendu Das Apu, former Central Office Secretary Mofiqul Hasan Tripti, Krishak Dal Central Joint Secretary T.S. Auyub, Central Member Sabira Sultana Munni, Abul Hossain Azad, and former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Kazi Rawnakul Islam Srabon.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged voters to ensure a landslide victory for BNP-nominated candidates, including Jessore-3 candidate Anindya Islam Amit, across the district’s six constituencies.

BNP Vice Chairman Professor Nargis Begum and Acting Central Organising Secretary for Khulna Division Anindya Islam Amit were also present at the meeting.
