Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has directed field-level police officers to enhance direct supervision and monitoring to maintain normal law and order in the capital. He said the capital is home to people from various professions, including domestic and foreign diplomats. Therefore, ensuring security and stability in Dhaka is crucial in the interest of the entire country.

The IGP made the remarks at a special law and order coordination meeting at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh on Thursday, August 13, addressing senior officials. He stressed the need for regular surveillance and effective supervision by senior officers over the activities of police members serving at the field level.

The IGP said when senior officers directly monitor field-level activities, it increases the interest and confidence of police members in performing their duties. At the same time, proper supervision encourages lower-level police members to perform their duties more actively and spontaneously.

Addressing police officers, he said they must perform their duties in the interest of the country and to establish public peace without succumbing to any unjust or unethical pressure. However, he also warned that the police force would not be responsible if any officer intentionally commits mistakes or abuses their authority for personal gain.

Stressing professionalism and neutrality, the IGP said police are fundamentally servants of the law and the people, irrespective of party or opinion. Police will continue their zero-tolerance policy against drugs. He noted that besides conventional crimes, cybercrime, rumours, propaganda and misinformation have become major challenges for police.

The meeting also called for vigilance against any attempts to render police ineffective and against misinformation. The coordination meeting was attended by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Additional IGP Khondkar Rafiqul Islam, and other senior officials of Bangladesh Police.
