IGP urges police members to perform duties above fear and temptation
Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has urged the new police members to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, transparency and professionalism above fear and temptation.
He made this call as the chief guest at the basic training graduation parade of the 42nd Cadet Sub-Inspector (SI)-2025 batch at the parade ground of Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi on Thursday (July 16) morning.
The IGP said that maintaining law and order in the country, suppressing crime and ensuring the safety of life and property of citizens are among the main responsibilities of the police. In performing this responsibility, no kind of fear or temptation can be accepted. They must earn their trust by performing their duties as servants of the people.
He said that one of the foundations of a democratic police system is transparency and accountability. Although strict in combating crime, the common people should be treated with courtesy, humanity and friendliness. He also instructed the police members to be vigilant so that no one is harassed while seeking services.
The IGP stressed on acquiring technical skills to combat rapidly changing crimes and said that skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital forensics should be enhanced to combat technology-based crimes including cybercrime, online gambling, and spreading rumors on social media.
Thanking the guardians of the officers who completed the training, he said that their children have got the opportunity to perform an important duty of public service from today. He urged them to dedicate themselves to serving the country by adopting the motto of 'My Police, My Country; Bangladesh First'.
Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy GM Azizur Rahman, Rajshahi-6 MP Abu Said Chand, senior police officers, military and civilian officials and guests from different classes and professions were present at the event. Later, the IGP presented awards to the best SIs who achieved achievements in various areas of training.
