IHRC Secretary Sonia Afroz Khan to visit Bangladesh
Sonia Afroz Khan, International Affairs Secretary of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), is set to arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday (July 4).
Khan, a Danish-Bangladeshi human rights official, will spend close to a month in the country as part of the assessment mission.
According to the announced itinerary, she will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 4:00am on July 4 on an Etihad Airways flight from Copenhagen, Denmark.
She is expected to be received at the airport by senior leaders of the IHRC Bangladesh Chapter, including its President M A Hashem Raju, Ambassador Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Ambassador Prof. Dr. Jinbodhi Bhikkhu, Head of the Legal Aid Cell Md. Abdul Momen Chowdhury, Joint International Affairs Secretary A S M Ragib Ahsan Munna, and other officials.
During her 28-day visit, Khan is scheduled to meet the families of those killed and injured during the July mass uprising. The programme includes visits to the families of Abu Sayed, Wasim Akram and Mir Mugdho, as well as others affected by the movement.
She is also expected to meet people who sustained life-changing injuries during the protests.
As part of her visit, Khan will travel to Cox's Bazar, where she is expected to spend seven days at the Rohingya refugee camps to observe the humanitarian situation of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.
The visit will also include meetings and field observations aimed at assessing Bangladesh's overall human rights situation.
According to the organisers, the findings of the visit will be compiled into a report after the tour.
