Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the government will start drives to recover illegal firearms soon.

The adviser said this in a meeting with French Ambassador to Dhaka Marie Masdupuy in the capital on Sunday (August 25).

During the meeting, the existing law and order situation, reformation of police, recovery of illegal weapons and other issues were discussed.

When the ambassador expressed the tension regarding the looted firearms from several police stations, the adviser said that firearms recovery drive will be started soon.

Adviser said the law and order situation in Bangladesh is gradually improving. However, the country is facing some challenges due to various demands and issue-based movements of people of various classes and professions. Hopefully, the situation will improve soon.

The Ambassador asked the Adviser about the current government's steps to reform police. At this time, he said, policemen have to perform their duties under a lot of pressure due to less rest time.

In reply, the adviser said, "We have made a decision on police reform. But it is in the early stages. Apart from the police force, we are gradually taking initiatives to reform other forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs.”
