Imam flees with child after murdering wife in Munshiganj
Police have unraveled the mystery behind the murder of a woman whose body was left on a bed after a failed attempt to hang it, arresting the husband within 24 hours of the incident. The accused has been sent to jail through the court.
The deceased was identified as Ayesha Akter, 28, a resident of East Baligaon village under Baligaon Union in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj district. Her arrested husband, Md. Muhasin Matubbor, 32, is the imam of the East Baligaon Jame Mosque and the son of Omar Ali Matubbor from Bahara village in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj. The couple has a four-year-old daughter.
According to a PBI press release, Muhasin had been living with his wife Ayesha and their daughter in a rented house belonging to freedom fighter Nurul Islam in East Baligaon village for the past six months. Ayesha had been married twice before, and since this fact was initially kept secret, disputes frequently arose between the couple.
On the night before the incident (July 5), after returning home following the Esha prayers, Muhasin became enraged upon seeing his wife wearing an old dress, leading to an argument. At one point, he slapped her and tore her dress. The following morning on July 6, around 10:30am, when Muhasin asked why breakfast was not prepared, Ayesha mentioned having a headache, which triggered another altercation. During the argument, Muhasin hurled insults regarding her previous marriages, assaulted her, and choked her before pushing her backward against a wall. Ayesha hit a wooden plank and died on the spot.
Muhasin then attempted to hang the body by tying a scarf (orna) around her neck. Failing to do so, he left the body on the bed and fled the scene with their four-year-old daughter, Mayesha.
Following the incident, the victim's brother, Md. Shamim Talukdar, filed a murder case with Tongibari Police Station. Using information technology, a special team of PBI Munshiganj conducted a raid and arrested Muhasin Matubbor on July 8. Following his arrest, he was produced before the court, where he gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, admitting to the murder, said Case Investigating Officer Roni Debnath.
PBI Munshiganj Additional Superintendent of Police Ayesha Ara Jahan stated that preliminary investigations indicate the murder was a result of family disputes. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
