Imam's hanging body recovered from inside mosque
Police have recovered the hanging body of an imam from inside a mosque in Sonaichhari union of Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram. The body was recovered from the Raja Mia Sawdagar Jame Mosque in Banglabazar area of the union around 10:30 pm on Tuesday (June 23).
The deceased, Amir Hossain, 43, had been serving as an imam at the mosque for 13 years. He was a resident of Banshkhali upazila of and lived in a room on the second floor of the mosque.
Police and local residents said that Amir Hossain led the Asr prayers on Tuesday afternoon. However, the worshippers became suspicious when they saw the mosque locked during Maghrib and Isha prayers as well. Later, they peeked through the second-floor window of the mosque and saw the imam's body hanging from the hook of a ceiling fan. On receiving information, the police came and recovered the body at night.
In this regard, General Secretary of the Mosque Management Committee Mohammad Iftekhar Ahmed said, when the body was recovered, a green cloth was tied around his neck with a fan hook and a ladder was lying below. In addition, a note was found in Amir Hossain's room, which mentioned some issues of family feud.
In this regard, Sitakunda Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam said that the body of the deceased has been sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. It is being verified whether the recovered note was written by him or not. Necessary legal action will be taken in this incident.
