BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday described the incident involving former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda as "undoubtedly unfortunate" and called for exemplary punishment of those responsible.

Speaking to reporters at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, Rizvi said the party does not condone any unlawful behavior, regardless of the circumstances. "The law must take its course. No one should take the law into their own hands," he stated.

He criticized the apparent failure of law enforcement agencies to ensure security in the court premises, where the incident occurred. "It is the government's responsibility to provide maximum security in such sensitive areas. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies are always present there. How could such an incident happen under their watch?" he questioned.

Rizvi alleged that some political parties are trying to take advantage of the situation for their own gain. He stressed that BNP is committed to maintaining peace and order. "Our Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman have made it clear that no party member should be involved in any kind of disorder, vandalism, or unlawful activity," he said.

He noted that the BNP has taken disciplinary measures against its members when credible allegations have arisen. "Thousands of party activists have faced punishment, including expulsion, warnings, and show-cause notices, for violating party discipline. This proves BNP is working toward establishing peace, democracy, and a just society."

Rizvi concluded by urging the government to identify those responsible for the incident and take appropriate legal action.
