BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the two core objectives of Bangladesh’s independence were establishing democracy and achieving economic liberation for the poor, though both goals have faced setbacks over time.

He made the remarks at the book launch of 'Tarique Rahman’s Politics: The Sublimity of Mass Uprising' at the National Press Club on Saturday (August 23).

Moyeen Khan criticized the post-liberation period between 1972 and 1975, when the Awami League imposed a one-party rule, questioning the party’s commitment to democracy.

He also highlighted the role of Khaleda Zia in politics, emphasizing that she entered through the “front door” and not via back channels.

Addressing the youth, Moyeen Khan noted that those eligible to vote since 2009 have been deprived of exercising their fundamental right for 17 years.

He further stressed the importance of considering the aspirations of the entire youth population for effective leadership and governance.
