US's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has claimed that his country had no involvement in the fall of Sheikh Hasina in the July-August student uprising in Bangladesh.

He said that Indian officials also hold such a view.

Jake Sullivan expressed this position in an interview given to the Indian media Hindustan Times. The report was published by Hindustan Times on Friday (January 10).

Sullivan recently returned to Washington after completing a New Delhi trip.

Hindustan Times asked him about India's views on the assassination attempt on Khalistan movement leader Gurupatwant Singh Pannun, corruption allegations against Gautam Adani in the United States, and the role of America behind the change of power in Bangladesh.

Hindustan Times also wanted to know what his comments are on the deterioration of bilateral relations under the Biden administration in the context of the ruling BJP in India alleging that the US ‘deep state’ is trying to destabilize India. Also, how will he answer these questions from the position of the one who is called the ‘leader of the US deep state’?

In response, Sullivan said: "I would like to politely reject the idea that I am at the head of the deep state and I would also reject the idea that America was behind the events that took place in Bangladesh. This is absolutely false. Based on discussions with senior Indian officials, I do not think that they believe this either."

Earlier, in late December last year, Jake Sullivan spoke to Dr. Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, over the phone.

At that time, he congratulated Dr. Yunus for specifying when the next national elections in Bangladesh could be held.
