India attaches high importance to military, strategic ties with Bangladesh: Trivedi

India attaches high importance to its military and strategic ties with Bangladesh and wants to deepen defence cooperation through stronger communication between the two countries, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Dinesh Trivedi said on Wednesday (September 9).

Trivedi made the remarks during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr A K M Shamsul Islam at the Armed Forces Division office in Dhaka Cantonment, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The two sides discussed a range of defence and security issues, including joint training, professional development of Bangladesh’s armed forces and greater exchange of experience between military officials.

They also discussed cooperation in disaster response, maritime security and regional peace and stability, with both sides stressing the need for closer coordination on shared security interests.

Trivedi praised Bangladesh’s socioeconomic progress and government initiatives, while reaffirming New Delhi’s support for expanding professional cooperation and capacity-building between the two countries’ armed forces.

The meeting came amid continued high-level engagement between Dhaka and New Delhi, with both sides expressing their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence ties and working together on regional stability and common challenges.
