India will continue to support Bangladesh's vision of a stable, peaceful and a progressive nation, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The election in Bangladesh is a domestic matter for the country and it is the people of Bangladesh to decide their own future, said MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi at a regular media briefing. "We do not want to comment on the policy of any third country...As a close friend and partner, India respects the democratic process in Bangladesh and we will continue to support Bangladesh's vision of a stable, peaceful and progressive nation," Bagchi said while responding to a media query.

 His comments came when a correspondent wanted to know India's position on the recent political developments in Bangladesh.

 বৃহস্পতিবার (৯ নভেম্বর) সন্ধ্যায় দিল্লিতে ভারতীয় পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের নিয়মিত সাপ্তাহিক ব্রিফিংয়ে এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি এই মন্তব্য করেছেন। ব্রিফিংয়ে বাংলাদেশে বিরোধী দলের শীর্ষস্থানীয় নেতাদের গ্রেফতারের কথা উল্লেখ করে এ বিষয়ে ভারতের মনোভাব জানতে চাওয়া হয়। জবাবে অরিন্দম বাগচী বলেন, ‘বিরোধীদের দমন, নেতাদের গ্রেপ্তার, জেলে ঢোকানো—এসব মন্তব্য তার নয়। এগুলো প্রশ্নকারীর’। তারপর তিনি বলেন, ‘তৃতীয় কোনো দেশের নীতি নিয়ে ভারত কোনো মন্তব্য করতে চায় না।’ তিনি আরো বলেন, বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচনও তাদের একটি অভ্যন্তরীণ ঘরোয়া বিষয়। বাংলাদেশের মানুষ নিজেরাই তাদের ভবিষ্যত নির্ধারণ করবেন, এখানে আমাদের কিছু বলার থাকতে পারে না। বাংলাদেশের ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধু ও সহযোগী হিসেবে বলবো, আমরা সে দেশের গণতান্ত্রিক প্রক্রিয়াকে সম্মান করি ও মর্যাদা দিই। একটি স্থিতিশীল, শান্তিপূর্ণ ও প্রগতিশীল রাষ্ট্র হিসেবে বাংলাদেশের যে ভিশন, তার প্রতিও আমাদের সমর্থন অব্যাহত থাকবে।
