India sending specialist doctors, nurses, and equipment to Dhaka
India is sending specialist doctors, nurses, and advanced medical equipment to help treat the burn victims of the military plane crash near Milestone School and College in Dhaka's Uttara. This decision was made after discussions between the foreign ministries of both countries.
A senior official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that two experienced burn unit doctors and a small nursing team will arrive in Dhaka by Tuesday. In addition, specialized medical equipment used for treating burn patients is also being sent. Depending on the situation, more doctors and nurses may be sent later.
Right after the accident, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called his Bangladeshi counterpart and offered full support. That evening, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on social media platform X, saying, “India stands with Bangladesh and is ready to provide all necessary assistance.”
Since then, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and both governments have been in direct contact. Bangladesh informed India that most of the injured have severe burns and urgently need burn specialists, modern medical equipment, and medicines. India responded quickly to this request.
Diplomatic sources have confirmed that arrangements are ongoing to send more doctors and nurses from India.
Experts say that although India-Bangladesh relations have been somewhat cool over the past year, this moment of crisis has once again highlighted the strength of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
