India is reportedly taking multiple strategic measures around Bangladesh to safeguard regional influence and security amid growing concerns over Dhaka’s engagement with Pakistan, according to Indian news agency DNA.

The measures include strengthening military presence along the India-Bangladesh border, with new bases established at Bamuni, Kishanganj, and Chopra.

India is also enhancing capabilities around the Siliguri Corridor (“Chicken Neck”), a narrow 20–22 km land link connecting its northeastern states to the mainland.

Plans are underway for an alternative rail route via Bihar and Nepal to reinforce connectivity, the report read.

DNA cites concern over Pakistan Army Chief Sahir Shamshad Mirza’s recent Dhaka visit and remarks by retired Bangladeshi officials, which New Delhi views as unsettling.

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus’ comments on Bangladesh’s strategic maritime position have also reportedly drawn Indian attention.

The new military bases serve both defensive purposes and signal India’s geopolitical stance amid regional power shifts, emphasizing the importance of securing the Siliguri Corridor against potential external pressures.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry has stated it will comment after consulting relevant departments.
