The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma, on Tuesday joined Durgashtami celebrations at the historic Dhakeshwari Temple, emphasizing the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries.

Accompanied by his wife, the envoy extended greetings of “Shubho Sharodiya” to devotees, noting that Durga Puja reflects the shared heritage of India and Bangladesh.

“India and Bangladesh share a unique and special relationship. They are connected by history and geography, and emotionally linked by the shared sacrifices of the Liberation War of 1971,” he said.

He described Durga Puja as more than a religious festival, highlighting it as a celebration of culture, inclusivity, and compassion—an occasion where families unite, neighborhoods come together, and art and music flourish.

Calling the festival a symbol of the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and hope over despair, he expressed optimism that it would inspire both nations to strengthen their bonds further.

“These festivities remind us that our cultural ties run deeper than national boundaries. The true strength of our relationship lies in our people, their shared traditions, and mutual respect,” he added.

During Ashtami Puja, the High Commissioner prayed for peace, prosperity, happiness, and harmony for both nations, invoking Goddess Durga’s blessings for wisdom and compassion.
