Indian High Commission in Dhaka celebrates ITEC Day 2025
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka organised a reception and reunion to mark the ‘Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Day (ITEC Day 2025)’ with the support of the ITEC Alumni Association of Bangladesh (IAAB). Around 150 students from Bangladesh attended the event held on Monday, December 1, on the High Commission premises.
Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma delivered a speech at the programme. He said that the ITEC programme reflects India’s commitment to South–South cooperation. Based on the needs and priorities of partner countries, the programme plays a significant role in capacity-building and human resource development. He noted that more than 5,000 professionals from Bangladesh have taken part in ITEC training over the years. He praised the Bangladeshi ITEC alumni as a bridge for sharing knowledge and experience, and also commended IAAB’s initiative to bring the alumni onto a common platform.
Participating alumni shared their experiences from their training in India. Representatives from various institutions, including the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO), and Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA), were present at the event.
A cultural programme featuring performances by Bangladeshi artists was also held to mark ITEC Day, highlighting the cultural ties between India and Bangladesh.
Established in 1964, India’s flagship ITEC programme currently provides development experience and technical cooperation to more than 160 countries around the world. Each year, over 12,000 training slots and more than 300 courses are offered for partner countries at India’s leading institutions in fields including agriculture, management, governance, health, IT, remote sensing, renewable energy, judicial systems and election management.
