Indian High Commission marks 10th National Ayurveda Day 2025 in Dhaka
The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka celebrated the 10th National Ayurveda Day 2025 with a vibrant programme.
The event brought together dignitaries, medical experts, yoga practitioners, and members of the Bangladeshi youth delegation, said a press release.
This year's theme, "Ayurveda for People, Ayurveda for Planet," highlighted Ayurveda's role not only in personal well-being but also in promoting ecological balance and sustainability.
Delivering the welcome address, IGCC Director Ann Mary George underscored the deep cultural and historical ties between India and Bangladesh, including their shared heritage of traditional medicine.
She noted that Ayurveda has been practiced in Bangladesh for centuries and continues to play an important role in healthcare alongside Unani, Yoga, and Homoeopathy.
With many medicinal plants common to both countries due to similar geo-climatic conditions, she pointed to vast opportunities for collaboration in research and innovation.
George also observed that a growing number of Bangladeshi students are pursuing studies in traditional medicine in India, further strengthening knowledge exchange between the two nations.
She reaffirmed India's commitment to working closely with Bangladesh in advancing cooperation in Ayurveda through research, education, and best practices.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr Sarik Hasan Khan, Vice Principal of the Government Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College in Dhaka, who emphasised the importance of Ayurveda and Unani systems in preventive healthcare.
The programme also featured a short film on the "Journey of Ayurveda," a yoga demonstration by IGCC instructor Shahanaz Parvin Shikha, and an interactive yoga session led by Farhana Sultana Karim, founder of Yoga Bliss, Dhaka.
Speakers linked the celebration to the broader vision of a healthier India under the Swasth Bharat Yojana, which strengthens healthcare infrastructure, builds disease surveillance networks, supports biomedical research, and promotes the "One Health" approach that connects human, animal, and environmental well-being.
The celebration of National Ayurveda Day 2025 at IGCC Dhaka reflected the enduring relevance of traditional medicine in strengthening bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Bangladesh while offering holistic solutions for health and sustainable living.
