Indian medicines worth Tk1.2cr seized in Satkhira
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a consignment of Indian medicines worth approximately Tk1.2 crore from Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira, which had been smuggled into the country without paying customs duties.
The consignment was reportedly brought into Bangladesh illegally, bypassing customs procedures.
Lieutenant Commander Md Muntasir Ibne Mahsin, media officer of the Coast Guard West Zone, confirmed the seizure on Saturday morning (September 20).
Acting on a tip-off, members of Coast Guard Station Koikhali conducted a special operation on Friday around 12pm in Mirgang and adjacent areas under Shyamnagar Police Station, targeting a suspected syndicate involved in cross-border drug smuggling.
During the drive, the Coast Guard recovered a large quantity of Indian pharmaceutical products in abandoned condition.
"A legal action is currently underway regarding the seized items," Lt Commander Mahsin said.
