Indian national held with 3kg kush at Dhaka airport
An Indian national has been arrested with 3kg of 'kush', a cannabis-based narcotic, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) said.
The man, identified as Hossain Abdul Kader Sheikh, 48, was detained at the airport's green channel on Saturday afternoon (August 22) after arriving in Dhaka on a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok.
According to a DNC press release issued Saturday night, a special team led by Assistant Director Abu Sayed Mia took position at the green channel around 2pm based on intelligence information. Kader was detained after officials noticed his suspicious behaviour after he disembarked from the flight.
A subsequent search of his trolley bag, conducted in the presence of officials from different agencies at the airport, led to the recovery of 3kg of kush concealed under clothing inside the bag.
Officials also seized a mobile phone, $400, 1,550 Thai baht and 400 Indian rupees from his possession.
The DNC said legal action would be taken against the arrested man under the relevant laws.
