India's statement over Zahed Ur Rahman's trip to Delhi
Zahed Ur Rahman, information adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, went to the Indian capital Delhi to attend a conference. There, he had to face immigration obstacles. After sitting at the Delhi airport for a long time, he finally returned to Dhaka by Monday afternoon.
The incident created controversy. Finally, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on the matter.
According to BBC Bangla, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Zahed Ur Rahman came to Delhi with his personal passport. It was not an official or diplomatic passport. His passport had a SAARC sticker, not a regular Indian visa.
After questioning at immigration, it was learned that he had come to attend a conference and was allowed to enter. However, he decided not to attend the meeting and returned to Dhaka.
Earlier, on June 14, Zahed ur Rahman faced immigration hurdles when he went to Delhi to attend a conference. He is the Prime Minister's Adviser on Policy and Strategy, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and his rank is equivalent to that of a Minister of State.
He was questioned at the Delhi airport and then had to sit for a while. Although he was allowed to enter Delhi due to the efforts of various parties, including the Bangladesh High Commission, he finally decided to return.
Later, the Foreign Ministry officials called the Indian Acting High Commissioner and handed him a protest letter from Dhaka.
