Inflation rate rises to 8.55% in July
Bangladesh’s inflation rate climbed to 8.55 percent in July, up from 8.48 percent in June, according to data released today by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The rise marks a continued strain on household budgets as both food and non-food prices see slight but steady increases.
Food inflation saw a notable jump, rising to 7.56 percent in July from 7.39 percent in the previous month—an increase of 0.17 percentage points. Non-food inflation also edged up, reaching 9.38 percent from 9.37 percent in June.
Rural areas experienced a sharper rise in overall inflation, increasing by 0.09 percentage points to match the national average of 8.55 percent. Food inflation in rural regions stood at 7.36 percent, while non-food inflation surged to 9.73 percent.
Urban areas saw a more modest increase, with overall inflation inching up by 0.01 percentage points to 8.95 percent. Within cities, food inflation reached 8.04 percent and non-food inflation came in at 9.55 percent.
