Home Affairs and Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged citizens to report information about illegal arms, assuring swift action.

“We have made an announcement regarding illegal weapons: if you inform us, we will catch them. The informer will be rewarded, and his identity will be kept confidential,” he said.

He made the remarks on Saturday (6 September) after visiting the Guagachhia police camp in Meghnapara, Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj. He also added, “To strengthen the police, coastguard patrols will be increased.”

The adviser said, “For long, the people of Munshiganj demanded a police camp here. By the grace of Allah, although it is not yet permanent, this camp has been established temporarily. I hope it will become permanent. I myself am from Munshiganj, so on behalf of the residents outside Munshiganj as well, I extend thanks.”

He continued, “I cannot speak for the events of the last thirty to forty years, but I feel a camp here is essential. I am not denying that the country has more than a thousand problems. Of course there are many, but we must continue working through them. We will act in the way we believe is best. People will always try to serve their own interests, but the government will try to ensure law and order remains stable.”

Dhaka Range DIG Rezaul Karim Mallik, Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatema Tuj Johora, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Gazaria UNO Md Ashraful Alam, Munshiganj Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Shafiqul Islam, coast guard officers, members of the police, and various officials including Gazaria police station OC Anwar Alam Azad were present.

Crossing the long river route, the adviser’s visit to the remote police camp delighted locals. Villagers, gathering in groups, expressed gratitude and said that since the camp’s establishment, illegal sand lifting has stopped and many families have begun returning to their villages. The adviser assured them of safety and of taking action against criminals.
